Being a busy little Ducky, I have just oodles and oodles of hobbies and interests, some of which don't involve food or taking naps. On those odd days when I feel like doing something out of the ordinary, I jump right up off the couch and waddle over to my little hobby shelf, and soon I find myself right up to my eyeballs in amusement. My recent move to the fabulous new Duck Pond Estate has given me ample opportunity to rediscover some of my favorite things to do, once I finished unpacking all the boxes
With summer being upon us, water activities have always been my personal favorite way to beat the heat. I guess you could say I take to them like a duck takes to water! But, you know, sometimes splashing around in the bathtub is just not enough, so I get out my beach towel, my sand pail and shovel and my SPF 5000 sunblock lotion and go to the swimming pool. There, I can safely practice my aquatic skills, such as dog paddling, doing hand stands in the shallow end, and dipping my feet in the water! Ahhh---nothing like a cool pool to beat the heat! Another favorite water activity involves going fishing. What you do is, you borrow a pole from someone and ask them if you can go fishing with them. Then you go to a lake or a pond or a river and catch fish. It's really easy and fun to do. You tie up a sharp hook to a fishing line that is attached to a fishing pole, being careful not to tear open your hand with the hook or strangle yourself on the fishing line. Then you take a cute little worm and squish his little squirmy body all down over the fishing hook so the fish will see the worm, but not the hook. Once you have finished mutilating the cute little worm, throw him in the water with the hook and wait a while. After about two hours, pull out the line and see that the fish ate the worm all around the hook, and put a new worm on the hook. Put it back in the water for another two hours while you even up your tan. Then get back in the car and stop at the grocery store on the way home and buy some fresh rainbow trout.
When I am home at the Duck Pond Estate, I like to check out the cupboards for something good to eat. Unfortunately, if you want something really good to eat, you usually have to cook it yourself. Why settle for the same old boring, mundane food when you can cook just like Ducky? Following are some of my favorite recipes. This is a meal that is easy to make, and adds excitement to your web-surfing, since you already have the Spam! You will need:
Slice your Spam into maybe 1/2" thick slices, depending on how thick you like it. Put the 1/2 cup of water into your frying pan. This is important, because without the frying pan, the water gets all over the stove. Turn on the heat to about medium high and put your Spam slices into the pan. When they start to get hot, turn them over with your spatula. Once the water starts to dry up, turn the Spam frequently to brown it. When it is browned enough, put it on your bottom slice of bread. Put the slice of cheese on top of that, then put on your tomato slices. Add the condiments if you want, them put on your top bread. Put it all on a plate with a big old handful of Cheez-Its. You can slice the sandwich diagonally if you want to make it look pretty. Enjoy!
This is a really easy, tasty dessert that you can ignore for hours in the fridge while you are doing important things, like reading my web page! I recommend the green jello flavor, but you can use whatever flavor you like best! Here's what you'll need:
Put your jello in a bowl and leave it in the fridge for maybe 1/2 hour until it starts to get thick, then take it out and mix in your fruit cocktail. Put it all back in the fridge and leave it there for a few hours until you remember that you have it in the fridge, then scoop some out in a bowl. You can put whipped cream on top if you like, it tastes pretty good that way!
I invented this recipe by accident one day when I was trying to make a Western omelette and folded it too soon. I found out it tasted pretty good anyway, and was not nearly as fussy to make as an omelette is. You will need these ingredients:
Melt your shortening in the frying pan over medium heat, then put in your beaten eggs. Sprinkle in about 2/3 of your peppers and onions and ham and start stirring it around until the eggs start firming up. Sprinkle about 2/3 of your cheese over it and keep stirring. When the eggs are as firm as you like them, put them on a plate and sprinkle the rest of the ham, peppers, onions and cheese on top of them. Garnish the plate with parsley if you want to feel like you are eating at Denny's. It's pretty good with ketchup on it.
