ducky Goes Shopping!

Having recently moved into the fabulous Duck Pond Estate, I found myself with lots of cabinets that didn't have anything in them! I thought it might be best to correct this obvious management oversight by going to the grocery store an buying some stuff to put in the cabinets. I have always believed that "forewarned is forearmed," so I armed myself with a shopping list for this latest adventure. I wrote lots of stuff on my shopping list, including things like food and Cheez-Its. I almost forgot to write down the toilet paper and the air freshener, but a quick visit to the bathroom soon reminded me I would need these things. I grabbed my list, my purse, and my cute little shopping cart, and away I went! I waddled on down the street to my local grocery store. It was a pretty dangerous trip, because I had to cross the street TWO times to get there, and there were actual cars driving by! There were also some places in the sidewalk that had big cracks in them, and I had to carefully walk around them. Finally, I reached my destination, a really BIG grocery store that used to be called Dave's and got sold to some place called Big Chicken or something like that. I paused to catch my breath, and also caught some guy sitting in the parking lot practicing personal maintenance on his nose. I walked right in the doors, which opened by some kind of magic eye that knew I was coming. The first thing I saw was the nice police officer that guards the door and makes sure nobody leaves until they run out of money. I waved at him and went to the produce section where they keep fresh vegetables and fruits. I looked at many fruits and vegetables, some of which wore name tags that told me they worked at the store. I picked up some grapes and put them in my cart, then went to get the celery I like to put in my tuna salad. They had onions, too, and I got some of those. They had a lot of other things, but they weren't on my list, so I went to the next section, which had lunchmeat and stuff like that. I didn't want any lunchmeat, so I said "goodbye, deli," and moved on to the meat section, where I got some chicken and some hamburger and asked if they had financing programs available for a steak. After that, it was on to the soup and cracker aisle, where they had Cheez-Its! There they were, boxes and boxes of Cheez-Its, just as pretty as anything I have ever seen. And they were on sale, buy one get one FREE! I went down many aisles after that, and put all kinds of things in my cart. I learned all about impulse shopping and how it affects me, the consumer. I found out that you should eat your lunch before you go shopping, or you will buy things just because you are hungry. I went to the frozen food section and saw pizza rolls, which are pretty tasty, and they had three different flavors, so I got some of those. I got some boxes of frozen fish filets (the crunchy breading kind) and some frozen pierogis. It was very cold in the frozen food section, so I.went on to the bread and cookies aisle and got some of my favorite cookies with the jelly tops. The shopping was done, and it was time to move on to the checkout stand. That is the place where they have 14 cash registers and two cashiers, one of whom is on her lunch break. I got in the line where they had a cashier and read the magazines while I waited for my turn to give them my money. I got a preferred customer card in the mail from the store, and I brought it with me. I figured since I am a preferred customer, I can probably save thousands of dollars, because they like me so much. The cashier waved my magic card on the cash register so it could give me my big savings. She rang up all my groceries and her helper put them all in grocery bags, which they give you free with your purchase. I gave her all my money and she gave me a receipt. You have to give them all your money, because if you don't, the little scanners will sound an alarm and they won't let you leave the building until all your money is gone. Of course, they TELL you that the scanners are for detecting shoplifters, but they aren't fooling this little Ducky! Finally, I was done shopping, and it was time to go home with my groceries. I made the dangerous trip in record time, and came back to the Duck Pond Estate, where I unpacked all the bags and put everything neatly in its place, pausing only for a quick snack on one of the 22 boxes of Cheez-Its. Looking upon my now-full-of-stuff cabinets, I was overwhelmed with a sense of pride at having successfully finished this latest adventure. I celebrated my achievement with a cup of coffee and some pizza rolls.
